Get timestamp from a date string in PHP

Description:

Having a date string, return timestamp. Helpful when wanting to have the timestamp for a given date in known format.

Solution:

PHP has the function strtotime() that returns an integer timestamp for a given date string.

int strtotime ( string $time [, int $now = time() ] )
